What to wear on Christmas Day

This is always a dilemma for alot of Women out there and I often get asked; “What can I wear on Christmas Day?”. Lots of practical reasons will have an affect on what you wear on the big day; Are you cooking? Are you having guests? Do you go out for lunch? It also can be filled in family traditions, some people get really dressed up and others stay in their pyjamas all day chilling out grazing on cheese and chocolate. But this year more than ever it seems to be in the forefront of our minds, maybe because we were locked down last year so there was no need to make any effort, so this year people do.

Organised shoppers will invest in hardworking pieces – co-ords are always a clever buy – that can be dressed up and down to suit every festive situation. But, then again, this day only comes once a year; so I’ve included a few statement looks that will serve you for many a Christmas to come. If you’re on the relaxed end of the scale, you can still dress for the occasion: luxe loungewear is such a stylish option as is the comfy knitted dress.

Whether you’re ready to embrace a festive ensemble, looking for something more versatile to work all winter, or just want pyjamas you're happy to be photographed in, I’ve rounded up some of the best Christmas Day outfits right here to show you how to spend Christmas day in style.

Christmas day style inspiration

TYXS9533.JPG

There are some big question marks over Christmas this year, as office parties and group gatherings aren't on the cards, and the restrictions will make Christmas week look a little different than usual. December is usually a time for back-to-back socialising but after a difficult year, your family and friends bubble will be the most important thing about Christmas for many this year.

Seeing as we won't have parties to dress up for, one thing we can start thinking about is our Christmas Day outfits. Whether you'll be celebrating with Zoom calls or with friends and family at home, the below ensembles will make you feel a little special, whatever you have planned. People have very different ideas about what a Christmas Day outfit should look like. Some dress up in dresses and sequins, while others have a strict "pj's only" policy. Whatever your stance is on the December 25 dress code, I’ve got some outfit inspiration to suit every occasion.

How to be the best dressed guest invited

53743D71-9063-41A0-9D85-22CCA5F0CDC5.JPG

Whether you are a guest at a wedding this Summer, have a ball to go to, a big birthday bash or going to Ascot was your highlight of the season, you can’t ignore the fact that your outfit needs some planning.

Our quest for the best outfit for said occasions can start months in advance or just days beforehand. Choosing an outfit for such important, excitedly anticipated events can be stressful, time consuming and feel uninspiring.

The days of summer special occasions are not over yet, there is still time to find the winning dress of the season. So if the term occasionwear fills you with a fear of sequins, puff sleeves, sashes and crippling shoes, then be inspired by the items I have pulled together for a stylish belle of the ball, no frump invited.

For me getting dressed up is all about embracing individuality, having fun, making an impact and flaunting your own brand of uniqueness. So many trends are happily coexisting at the moment that it’s near impossible to make a fashion misstep. But you don’t need to follow the trends to look fabulous, but you do need to know how to pull an outfit together that works. So embrace your inner sparkle, have fun with fashion and dare to take a few risks!

Here are my styling tips to think about where you'll be sure to make a dazzling statement no matter where you go -

Bold accessories

From sequins to feathers, statement earrings to oversized headbands, make waves with a big and bold accessory to set off your outfit.

Go all out

There's no time like a fabulous gala or event to wear your most extreme dress. Whether it's feathered, sequined, or bejeweled, don't hesitate to pull that baby out for your next party. Fashion girls would rather be overdressed than underdressed any day.

Wear colour

Traditions at weddings are to never upstage the bride on her big day, but that doesn’ t mean you should shy away from colour or print as a guest. It is no longer bad taste to go bright, statement colours or clashing prints. If you are going to a ball, then black can be too boring, stand out from the crowd and be bold.

Don’t wear trainers

Whether it be stilettos, kittens or block heels, a little extra lift is necessary when it comes to a more formal event. If notable enough, a pair of flats might work, but sneakers are a no-go.

Jumpsuits or trouser suits

Trends come & go but jumpsuits are now part of retailers yearly offer, they are even accepted at Ascot as of this year (2019). Jumpsuits and trouser suits are a chic, sophisticated alternative to wearing a dress, if you don’t want to show your legs, or want to wear something against the grain, you can be sure that a jumpsuit will serve you well for your event.

how to find your summer partywear outfit on the highstreet

IMG-1418.JPG

Wedding season, ball season, garden party season, any kind of party in the Summer requires a dress code that always has us questioning what to wear. I have alot of clients asking me to help them find outfits for those special occasions, whether it be a trip to Buckingham Palace, a guest at a wedding, a friend's big birthday bash or a day at the races, finding that special outfit can be tedious, frustrating and not at all fun. So I am going to provide you with some answers and give you some new inspiration and ideas on where to shop for your outfit.

Luckily, the high street is now a hotbed of excellent occasion options, whether you’re looking for a midi dress, trouser suit, jumpsuit or otherwise. Inexpensive enough to ensure you’re not the guest spending thousands, they’re also lovely enough to keep and wear again (and not just to more weddings, either).

TRUTH & FABLE AT AMAZON

Think of shopping on Amazon and perhaps you think first of your monthly bookclub buys, some minor electronics, bulk toilet paper or Alexa. You probably don’t think of your entire summer wardrobe, including bridesmaids’ dresses, swimwear and the perfect bright jumpsuit. But that may be about to change. Over the past few years, the online department store has been making moves into the fashion world in a bid to challenge the traditional high street, as well as our dependence on other internet retailers such as ASOS. Having launched a new range of private brands, that challenge is suddenly looking like a strong one, so check out Truth & Fable before you buy your books.

VERY EXCLUSIVE

Very Exclusive is a mix of Net-a-Porter and the Outnet. It has a mix of designer pieces at lower prices, mid range high street brands such as Whistles with some great discounts and some exclusive designs from them that you wouldn't find anywhere else. If you are looking for that designer dress and don't want to pay designer prices then this is the website you should be looking at.

KITRI

More floaty garden party than smart ball dressing, Kitri offers something no other brand is doing right now, a fresh new way to look at feminine shapes. Their price points make them much more affordable for a daytime, or day to evening dress that you will no doubt wear again and again. I have mentioned them on the blog before, but they continue to bring out unique styles at great prices, this brand is going from strength to strength.

ASOS EDITION

I have swooned over these dresses a number of times this season already. This is ASOS's fight for a part of the higher end market, competing with brands such as Needle & Thread and For Love and Lemons which they already stock on their site. The dresses from ASOS Edition are very feminine, have so much detailing on them and you will have everyone asking where your dress is from!

REISS

There are on the highstreet some stores where you just know you will find a great outfit, a great cut and in a great fabric and Reiss never disappoints. But this season they have truly surpassed themselves and have by far the best options of dresses online and instore. I cannot fault their designs, they are really original and there are just too many to choose from to buy just one thing!
