Boots of the season

Now is the perfect timing to bag yourself a new pair of boots for the season. Ones that you can start to wear now until Spring. It can be tricky to know what suits you, whats the latest style and what shapes go with what outfits you wear the most. It’s a minefield of heel height and shape, height of the boot, colour or fabric and can overwhelm you when trying to find the perfect pair. Often what you perceive to be something online doesn’t always look that way on you either, so trying them on is always a must.

Chunky boot

This has been around for a couple of seasons now. It doesn’t always suit everyone but they do elevate your outfits. I love wearing mine with dresses, straight leg jeans and skirts.

Updated Chelsea boot

This style has been around for so long and will never got out of fashion but it has had an update. Either longer in the height of the boot so it can go under your straight leg jeans or the sole has got thicker so they aren’t as chunky as the chunky boots but they have a bit of an edge.

Heeled stiletto boot

We can no longer wear heels as we haven’t been wearing them for so long, but a bit of height does elongate our bodies and for evening with jeans, trousers or dresses a heeled boot is the perfect option.

Knee high boot

I am sure we all own a pair of knee high boots somewhere in the back of our wardrobe, well now is the time to pull them out. Great with dresses and skirts, I like a chunkier sole or a riding boot for over jeans and leather leggings.

Cowboy boots

A novelty for the season and something I wouldn’t recommend if you were building a wardrobe to last you years. But these 2 I believe they stand the test of time, through this trend and every year after.

The knitted dress

The last couple of Winter’s the knitted dress has had a resurgence but it’s updated for 2022. These easy to throw on dresses can be worn for work, weekend, the school run or out for evening all depending on your footwear. I wear mine with trainers and boots, with bare legs right now and thick black tights in the colder weeks. I love that it keeps me warm when working from home, I can pop on a blazer for work appointments and then a leather biker for evenings out. It’s so versatile you will wonder what you did without one!

Your Autumn wardrobe Edit

Around this time of year you’ll find me knee deep in my own wardrobe rather than everyone else’s. This time of year is perfect to clear the clutter and make some space for the new season clothes pulled out from my storage boxes. Every inch of space will be taken up by heavy knits, leather trousers, knitted dresses, coats and big fluffy scarves.

When preparing your wardrobe space for Autumn, it’s all about creating the feeling of a clean page to greet you when you get dressed every morning. With a clear wardrobe you can see what you love about your Winter style, what you can’t wait to wear again and everything is easily accessible.

Tips on how to get your wardrobe Autumn ready

  • You have to be in the right mood to embark on your wardrobe swap over / edit. Make sure you have the time, the energy and the motivation to do it right and well.

  • Pack away summer things to allow your Autumn-Winter pieces to take up the space you have.

  • Try on the items you are unsure about and either put away for next year, donate it or sell it.

  • Think about the pieces you love and will wear time and time again and build on these key pieces every season.

  • Be tough on the pieces you don’t love or never wear, they are taking up space in your wardrobe aswell as in your mind.

  • I love to organise my wardrobe by product type so trousers together, blazers together and knits altogether so that it makes getting dressed everyday easier.

  • Remind yourself of your accessories such as bags, scarves and jewerlly so that you style it with your outfits.

the 6 pieces you need for transitional

Transitional is the period we are in right now, beginning of September into October. When the weather becomes changeable but not yet cold enough to wear jumpers and coats. It’s a strange time of year, trying to hold onto Summer but your mindset is moving into Autumn because of back to school, back to work and often new beginnings as we start the countdown to Christmas.

This period can be the hardest to know what to wear, quite often leaving the house in one outfit and having to strip off to another one on your way home. Layering is often the answer to most of the styling problems, but having the right pieces in your wardrobe is the best place to start. These pieces you will re-wear, re-style and go back to time & time again and find that at the same point in the year you will always dress in these pieces.

1. Lightweight jacket

This has to be your most important piece, it must fit in with your wardrobe, your style and your lifestyle as it will become something you live in. A utility jacket is a great option, a shacket in denim or heavier weight fabric or even a blazer are all great pieces to consider.

2. Stripe jumper

Never goes out of style and can be worn in so many different ways, having a go-to stripe jumper is something that every wardrobe needs. Find the right one and it will last you a lifetime.

3. Jeans

A great pair of jeans is a wardrobe staple, it can be hard to find the right pair but also feel stylish in them. Shapes have moved on but there is something for everyone out there, knowing what you need shape wise is key. Look at high waisted, straight leg ankle grazers for this seasons best shape.

4. High top trainers

High top trainers are so great for transition as they are the shoe you wear just before you get your boots out. They look great with everything, from jeans, to trousers, dresses and skirts, you can’t go wrong with adding them to your wardrobe.

5. Printed dress

Whether it be floral, leopard print or star, a printed dress is the perfect piece to wear now with trainers and into Winter with tights and boots. It can be worn as it is or layered up with jumpers and jackets. An investment piece that will be effortless to style up for any social occasion.

6. Stripe shirt

Something that doesn’t require a jacket and looks great with jeans, a stripe shirt is the easiest way to update your look. It never goes out of fashion, its just down to the way you style it.
